TraceTek Sensing Cable Construction
Direct Sensing

TraceTek sensing cable is unique in the leak detection
industry. It senses the materials being monitored directly
at the sensor level with no electro-mechanical components.
Effectively, this is like having a sophisticated chemical
lab positioned all along the sensor's length. And this
type of sensing cable works. TraceTek 3rd Party
EPA testing in the USA by Carnage Mellon indicates a 100%
chance of detection and a 0% chance of a false
alarm for ALL sensors. Additionally, 3rd party threshold
response testing demonstrates a 25,000 - 50,000 pip sensitivity
to hydrocarbon liquid and vapour phase materials.
Almost all other leak detection systems sense materials
indirectly. Capacitance measuring 2-wire cable systems
for example (Time Domain Reflectometry technology -TDR
) detect an event caused by a leak, instead of the leak
itself.
These systems detect only a change in capacitance
level and then try to evaluate this change with a somewhat
sophisticated computer program. However, a re-positioned
cable, a change in moisture level, corrosion at a connector,
and a host of other factors can cause a change in capacitance.
The control module is then left with the near impossible
task of sorting out a leak or a continuity failure from
some other event that causes a capacitance change.
In areas where sensing cables would be difficult to
install or impractical due to the conditions, Point
Sensing probes step into the breach.
