BREEAM Guideline notes for Water leak detection and Refrigerant leak detection.

What is BREEAM?

BRE's Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is used to assess the environmental performance of both new and existing buildings. It is regarded by the UK's construction and property sectors as the measure of best practice in environmental design and management.

BREEAM assesses the performance of buildings in a number of different areas. Credits are awarded in each area according to performance. A set of environmental weightings then enables the credits to be added together to produce a single overall score. The building is then rated on a scale of PASS, GOOD, VERY GOOD or EXCELLENT, and a certificate awarded that can be used for promotional purposes.

The BREEAM score provides a means of measuring the environmental impact of a building throughout its life and so benchmarking this against other buildings.

How can Aquilar help your BREEAM rating?
In the assessment procedure, credits are given for performance indicators in a range of areas. Aquilar can supply a range of products to help with two areas within the assessment: - Water and Pollution, each area is summarised below -

WATER

  • Where a leak detection system for major leaks is installed covering all main supplies.
  • To reduce the risk of major water leaks.

  • To gain maximum points for a totally energy efficient building, water leak detection is required between the property boundary and the building and internally within the building.

    POLLUTION

  • Where a refrigerant leak detection system is specified/installed covering high-risk parts of the plant (coil can be omitted from this).
  • To reduce the emissions of refrigerants to the atmosphere arising from leakage in cooling plant.
  • Regular inspection for refrigerant leaks where there is air conditioning.
  • For assistance choosing the appropriate equipment please refer to our Application Layouts or Commercial Building Applications for water leak detection or our refrigerant leak detection section.
